If a loved one has passed, our step-by-step guide will help support you on the actions to take, including getting started on how to arrange a funeral. When someone dies, you should aim to call your Funeral Director as soon as possible, after you have called the doctor. This allows for you to arrange for the deceased to be collected and to be brought into our care as soon as they are ready.

Your loved one will be cared for by our Funeral Directors. Once they have been brought into our care, they will be thoughtfully looked after at either one of our funeral homes or one of our care centres. Your Funeral Director will be able to confirm the details of this so you will know where your loved one is at all times.

If you wish to visit the Chapel of Rest during the time before the funeral, please speak to one of our Funeral Directors who will be happy to arrange a suitable date and time for you to visit. It is important to make an appointment so that the Chapel of Rest is available for you to use and your loved one is prepared for your visit.

If the cause of death means that visiting could be distressing, or if their death was caused by a hazardous illness, you should seek the advice of your Funeral Director.

Having to let people know that someone has passed away can be a very difficult and stressful situation to go through. The way you break the news to people will completely depend on how well you know them and their relationship with the person who has passed away. If you’re in the position of having to inform family and friends, we hope you find this guide to announcing a death useful.

We are a member of the National Association of Funeral Directors and as such we abide by The Funeral Director Code. We also have a legal obligation to try and ensure the person who is arranging a funeral has the right to do so, or has permission from those who do. If you are aware that someone has been appointed as the administrator, you should only arrange the funeral with this person's agreement. If there is no Will or Letters of Administration, then the responsibility would pass to the next of kin.

A Memorial is a way of creating a lasting memory to help remember a loved one.

What an experience Funeral Directors should be professional kind and compassionate to the deceased and family.

Only two staff Julia and Andy showed professionalism kindness and cared.

Other staff need to work alongside them to see what professionalism is.

Our dad passed away on the 7th February 2026, I made a telephone call to Gordon and Watson Rosebank Place Aberdeen to inform of dads passing around 12:20hrs office closing at 13:00hrs, staff would come to dad's house to transfer to the funeral home, staff duly came informed dad was going to be transferred to another funeral home for a sleepover and Gordon and Watson staff would transfer dad to their care on Monday morning.

At this time my contact details were given to the staff.

Staff advised us to close the curtains so we could not see dad leaving his house my sister said if the neighbours could see dad leaving so could we see him leaving.

Monday 9th February I called Gordon and Watson at lunchtime to see if dad was in the care of themselves, so glad you have called we have no contact details for you.

We were able to arrange the funeral on Thursday 12th assisted by Julia who was kind caring and knowledgeable. During this time Julia explained we could have fingerprints and locks of hair were asked for two sets this was clearly written down.

Monday 16th February dad still not ready for us to come and see he was not embalmed as this has to be a scheduled appointment and the embalmer was off on Friday, 10 days for embalming to take place. After being informed dad had not been placed in his coffin as staff were out on jobs and this will be done when they return to the funeral home, we received a call on Tuesday 17th February to inform dad now ready we made an appointment to come at 13:30 as we were nearby. On arrival the main door to the funeral home was open we entered and rang the bell inside a female staff member came out asking how we got in the door should be closed at all times no hello or how are you both,or can I help you

We went to see dad the room door didn't close from the outside anyone passing could see into the room. We dropped off photographs these were returned while we were with dad could this be done after family have completed the time spent with their loved one?

Family called on the 17th February to make appointment alas this was not recorded when they arrived on the 18th dad not ready for them to see.

Friday 20th we had booked appointment for the morning during this time Andy family member wished to purchase a memorial pin Andy came to assist this was given as curtesy of Gordon and Watson this was through Andy care and compassion appreciated by the family.

21st 22nd February await call from the funeral director for a time dad would be arriving at his house on Monday around 16:45 on Sunday I called Gordon and Watson to find information on dad's arrival to his house staff out on jobs will call later around 17:40 call received time relayed and wrong route given to us for dads arrival back to Gordon and Watson Rosebank Place Aberdeen.

23rd February family arrived at Gordon and Watson at 10:20amm service at 11:00am this would of been a good time for the family to be briefed on the carrying of dad there is a family room available this was not the case in the quietness of the room mourners were hearing the information to the family on how to carry dad this was brought to our attention after the service all we could do was apologise to people for this.

24th February we went to settle the account we asked for dad's hair and fingerprints staff member went to get this for us however a long wait ensued. James the manager came to speak to us to inform that staff had failed to obtain the fingerprints and had failed. James listened to our experience of how what happened while dad was in the care of Gordon and Watson he apologised for the failings, James has made contact to inform that changes are being made too late for dad and our family. Hopefully the changes are made and staff are all customer focused in the future.

Your team went above and beyond to make sure everything was exactly how we wanted it to be. Everything was handled with Dignity. Thank you so much....

From start to finish their service was impeccable, caring, professional and kind. I couldn't have asked for more support and comfort at such a difficult time. Jules and Kevin were excellent. Thank you.
